ABOUT THE ARTIST
Fran Zak, a long-time resident of Port Jefferson, New York, taught in the Writing Program and English Department at Stony Brook University for eighteen years, but she is best known in the area for her batiks, illuminated documents in English and Hebrew, and paintings. Her award-winning artwork has been widely shown in galleries and fairs.
Fran has always been interested in photography, and has produced many fine collections from her world travels. However, she says, "The age of 'digitized photographic imagery' is now upon us; the new technology, digital photography and computer graphic programs allow us to create art from photography, by enabling our own personal vision to shape and recreate the original images so that art and photography can be perceived as one and the same."
She has recently turned her attention to our local villages and harbors. Her vision helps us to see the everyday in new and often delightfully surprising ways, renewing our appreciation for the beauty and charm of our own environment.
Her website includes her paintings of Deia Mallorca, Spain, and neighboring villages, where Fran has spent several summers, and also her paintings of local scenes, in and around Port Jefferson, NY. In this collection, she captures the area's exceptional beauty and antiquity.
